Druh Belts & Buckles is the brainchild of Touring Professional Simon Hurd. The Englishman, also known as Hurdy on the European and Asian Tours, was famous for the distinctive and colourful pork pie hats he donned on the golf course. Simon Hurd, however, is now better recognised for his distinguished belts and buckles range.
So how did Druh Belts & Buckles begin?
12 years ago Hurd was playing on the Asian and European Tour wearing belts his previous roommate Ian Poulter had recommended to him. It was while chatting to a leather maker in Phuket that Hurd realised he could create his own belts with the same level of quality, for a fraction of the price. After playing a round on the Asian and European Tour, Hurd’s entrepreneurship and intuition paid off, selling 150 of belts in the first week and paying off all of his expenses. After more than a decade, that leather worker and his family are now working full time for Druh, creating the much-loved belts you see on our site today.
“Even as a golf pro, I have always taken an interest in fashion both on and off the golf course, so it seemed a natural progression
for me to go into the fashion world” says Hurdy, a smart dresser with well-tailored attire. “In fact I have been dressed by a well known Savile Row tailor in London, in the past and I soon realised that looking smart means playing smart.”
Where is Druh Belts & Buckles now?
Druh’s designs in classic black and browns and funky pastels and metallics have fast become the professionals’ style secret. Over the last 12 years, Druh Belts & Buckles has grown into the iconic brand it is today with the likes of Lee Westwood, John Daly, Robert Karlsson, Paul McGinley and Thongchai Jaidee having all joined the 100s of European and Asian Tour players, as well as LPGA and LET players, in choosing Druh belts.
Druh belts has also been the chosen brand to finish off some of the biggest and best teams in the world. Druh Belts has proudly supplied belts and personalised buckles to teams such as the European Ryder Cup, the Ladies Solhiem Cup both sides of the pond, the Presidents Cup worldwide and the Travistock Cup where the number one golfing pro Tiger Woods donned a personalized Druh belt.
“To see the brand grow so much has been nothing but amazing, and that is thanks to all who have loved our bright colours and eye-catching designs” reminisces Hurdy.
